The meeting of the North Main Street Task Force was called to order, followed by a roll call of the members present. Task force members and city staff introduced themselves and their respective roles.

Discussion with Providence Municipal Court on Traffic Cameras

Court Administrator Elizabeth Bettis discussed the operation, technological limitations, and environmental challenges of red light and speed cameras on North Main Street. She also explained the multi-step citation approval process and the challenges of obtaining accurate vehicle registration data from the DMV.

RIPTA Metro Connector Project Update

Sarah Engel from RIPTA provided an update on the Metro Connector high-capacity transit alternatives analysis, focusing on the viability of bus rapid transit and light rail options. The task force discussed potential modes, corridor routing, and stop spacing for the North Main Street segment.

Providence Streets Coalition Redesign Updates

The task force reviewed the temporary design interventions implemented at the intersection of Benefit Street and North Main Street, including flex posts and self-watering planters. Members shared positive community feedback and discussed the effectiveness of these quick-build safety measures in slowing down aggressive drivers.

Additional Updates and Lighting Project Status

Director of Project Management Kyle Delgado provided an update on the installation and energizing of 32 new decorative lights in the North Main Street median and plans for 10 new overhead lights. The Chair also shared updates regarding Walktober events, new business openings, and task force membership changes.
