Welcome to the finance. Councilman James Taylor. It's Tuesday, 09/09/2022. Before we start, I'd like to just say thank you to councilwoman and maybe not. Councilwoman, council chairperson, Allen Andrews for all she lead and is working with her as a chairperson.
Was very nice working with her. She's always like everything transitional. We've had the two meetings this year, the last few years, the two hearing meetings. And it was a pleasure working with her because she always listened to everybody in the council whether she agreed or disagreed, and she let me say, well, peace. So I just wanna say, if you're watching, hope you enjoy your retirement and your willingness.

So I'll entertain a motion to elect the chairperson of the finance committee.

Typically, you don't need a second for a nomination. So if the if, I mean, if the clerk I mean, Robert's rule doesn't require a second for nominations.

Graves? I just wanna say that I think it's just too much to be heading and stuff going on in the background for everything. I put my name in the hat because we don't know who really should be up the chair, and that's. And that's who Helen had wanted to follow her footsteps. That's who I wanted to follow.
And I think that we have to that we have to hold on to our integrity. We have to realize that sometimes your belt that you're getting into bed with is toxic. We need to stop that. We either we're gonna do what is really truly on our heart and what is truly right for the community and is committing, then we have to stop all the playing around and all this this backstabbing and all this other stuff. It's not right.
I don't think it's I I really don't think we should be doing it. When we first start start coming here, we were talking about transparency. If I had this is not transparent. This is this is let's let's talk in the in the back room and come back and say whatever. I went out this weekend to several places, and everybody told me that it had nothing to do with this, mainly from the mayor's office.
Oh, you guys voted in Joanne Ryan. You hadn't voted in that. It's nobody. That's what's working me, and that's why I'm putting my name in a hat. I am qualified to be.
I have served as numerous boards, for meetings. I've been in charge of organizations where I did 15 all of those things. So I know how to do this. But not only that, we are all veterans now because we have been doing it for over two and a half years. So some of the budgets that I had may not have came up to the month that is going through the city, but I have the the knowledge.
I have the integrity, and I have the strength to do this. And I am speaking for myself, but like I said, I really and truly hope people are not traded in their integrity for a title. They're not traded in their integrity for something that's being whispered in their room in the back in their ears in the back. We said we were not gonna do this. The whole reason that most of us came on supposedly as new ones was so we can stop this.
We can stop all this madness. There should be there should be no reason for me to be hearing something from other people before we it even comes to this room and to this room. So I hope that you spoke to me, and I hope that you follow your heart. But if if you don't, that's fine. I've spoken, and I do not want anybody coming to me later saying, oh, I wish I.
But then I'm a tell you about yourself. So that's that's all I have to say, and may the best for my mom.

One, wanna just appreciate if you
have something Greg just said and also say the burden is through the big scares. I
and that we continue to operate in transparent, thorough, and, a manner that we can feel good about or respect we can respect ourselves.
But regardless of who share it, and always to continue to operate the way we've been.
And just quickly, I'd like to throw in my 2ยข worth if you don't mind. I've been on the committee for seven years, and I mean that what I said about councilman Anthony because she did things differently, which in the beginning, didn't think was gonna be work out, like, to listen and everything, but it did. It it actually worked out. And I think when we come to vote for a chairperson, we have to look at both candidates, obviously. But we have to look who's been here every single day, who's been part of the committee, been here, and look and and whether they're sick or injured, they were here for budget hearings.
They were here for meetings. If this wasn't like like a baseball game, take mine off the bench, and they're gonna be your first lap. So I think we really need to look at that. And we have to look look and said vote with your part. Don't let someone tell you who you should vote for.
Because if you are here for that reason, that's a dictatorship. We don't need that. I think we we should be able to vote who we wanna vote for while being told or don't lose this or that or whatever. But that's all, and I guess I'll that's it. Anybody else has anything to speak out?
