It's me, Elena. Great. Thank you so much. Treasure, did you want us to serve if you wanna let them go?
Can I do an introduction? Thanks, Ben. Good.
Alright. So I can think about what I was gonna say. I wanted to start out by just sitting in that in my short time here, I've been very impressed by the people around the state. You know, the guys in charge with running the city, and I know most of the time, you guys are hoping to just get people to bid. I've been part of running the cities.
I know. We need. The reason I've had to vote no on everything is because when I looked and saw such a high yield contracts from the high nineties from white white male oral firms that can apply to the... A level of accuracy that couldn't be coincidental. So for me, in that, I see that there's something in the process that isn't just happening.
When we dug a little bit deeper, we kind of took a look at the vendor list and kind of took a look at what's been happening. Saw maybe a lack of record keeping Iraq and... Oh, and the other reason that the the lack of ending these bombarding was because in a city that has such a minority... Big minority population for us, they have such a low And the participation rate applies that we're not really doing business with a lot of the residents, resident companies, a lot of people that live in the city. And we're missing the opportunity to push these dollars back into the city's economy, especially given the amount of money that we're borrowing.
And I think that's the other thing that kind of bothered me is, In my short time here, I've signed, I mean, this year, about a $160,000,000 in bonds, and we don't have really any way of directing any of that money to the residents. So we don't have any internal processes. We don't have any kind of local vendor preference. And when we looked at that in the news, what stood out to me is one of the reasons we have so few MBEs in applying is we haven't provided any preference. They don't get any points.
