Call to Order, Roll Call, and Introductions
The Chair called the North Main Street Task Force meeting to order and established a quorum with roll call. Task force members and attending staff then introduced themselves and their affiliations for the public record.
Item 1: Progress and Information Updates
The committee received updates regarding state traffic commission approvals for short-term safety improvements and lane modifications at the Doyle and North Main Street intersection. Members also discussed secured funding for upgraded intersection lighting heads and upcoming summer installation plans.
Item 2: Presentation on Transit-Oriented Development and Main Street Initiatives
Representatives from Grow Smart Rhode Island presented strategies on establishing Main Street coordinating programs and promoting transit-oriented development along the North Main Street corridor. The committee and presenters discussed economic vitality, zoning reforms, property owner engagement, and infrastructure investments before voting to enter the presentation into the record.
Item 3: Public Comment and Task Force Discussion
Members of the public provided comments concerning utility pole collisions, bus stop safety, speeding, and hazardous right-turn slip lanes along North Main Street. The task force discussed potential traffic calming measures, automated speed camera regulations, and coordinating further short-term roadway interventions.
